An off-the-wall story from the Grimm Brothers about a young man who knew no fear...and why that was a massive problem for him.
The creature is a man who you don't want to high five. Mainly because he has eyeballs on his palms. Also mainly because he'll drink your bones with a straw.

Ok, well, a lot of stuff happens in this episode:
- Someone camps out under a gallows and doesn't understand that the dead guys aren't magical flying strangers
- A kid who I'm pretty sure is a psychopath kills way too many dogs and cats
- Someone spoons a corpse
- Someone shaves some skin and face off a severed human head so they can bowl with it
- There's a tragic story involving suicide and way too much child death
Love the show. When hearing this episode I couldn’t help but think that I heard this story before in song. Check out the song “Shudders” by MC Frontalot on the 2014 album Question Bedtime.
I have listened to a lot of pods about myth and folklore but this is the first one that not only educates but makes you laugh. The way you insert modern dialog into some of these legends is wonderful.
Jason can you please finish Robin Hood
And also I have a few recommendations for fictional
1. Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy
2. Dune
3. The ball and the cross
4. Ivanhoe
5. Billy bud
6. The gardener heist
7. The moon is a harsh mistress
Some of these are really long so you probably couldn’t do them but if you end up doing one of these that would AMAZING!
Also huge fan of your podcasts
Hi Jason,
I think the possessed bed would have to be the new Disney combo ride of Bed-knobs and Broomsticks meets Witch Mountain. (Copyright Disney Inc, no infringement or claiming of content intended)
Also, I am a big fan of what you and Clarissa do. Myths, fables, folklore, generational tales : it is all such interesting and amazing stuff and tells so much more about our past than most give it credit for! So, thank you so much and keep on ‘casting!
What’s the name of this fable in the Grimm’s book?
It’s “The Young Man Who Went Forth To Learn Fear”: http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/grimm004.html
Thank you!
I love this podcast. I always loved mythology, and was looking for a podcast pretty much just like this 2 years ago and found this. I was hoping for good content worth listening to. I wasn’t disappointed. It introduced me to myths that I had never heard before. And as a plus, I can strongly relate to the nerdy sense of humor. A lot of podcasts/shows get worse as they go on, due to writers running out of ideas. But I think this has gotten better as it goes on. Keep up the good work! (:
