This week on the Myths and Legends podcast, I’ll introduce the show and discuss what it’ll be about. Then, we’ll start right in on the story of Yvain, a knight of King Arthur's court who'll show that by being a huge jerk to nearly everyone you'll get everything you can ever want, throw it all away, and get it all again!
Then, for the mythological creature of the week, the hidden folk of Iceland, cheerful little elves who might give you great gifts or rain rocks down on you.

I enjoyed the first episode. The story was great and I will be a listener from now on. Just wondering what the song was the layed at the beginning of the episode.
Hi Jason, I noticed you mentioned the word helm and were wondering about its meaning. It made me think of the place in the Lord of the rings trilogy called helms deep. When I looked up the word, it said it was a place like an area or a valley. Helm’s deep was a place where the king and his people Went, which was protected by walls. So may be in the story about this dragon, Helm was referring to an area the dragon claimed as his territory.
This episode was great! I loved the humor and music and the plot was very easy to follow. Thanks!
Hi there,
Love the episode, love the podcast. I MUST KNOW the song played in the beginning of the episode. Please let us know!
Hi Jason! I found you podcast about 2 weeks ago and I have listening to it nonstop! This show makes my days at work way more entertaining. I find myself excited to go to work so I can listen to your wonderful stories! I’ve told everyone I know about this! Keep up the amazing work!
Hey man. Thanks for your amazing podcasts. Just one thing, where can I find the transcripts of this story?
I just discovered your podcast through the Podcast Go app. Love your rendition – and the Creature of the Week thing in the end :)
Hello Jason,
Glad I discovered your podcast. Your introduction to the first episode got me really interested… And who in the world doesn’t love the stories around King Arthur – the best way to start! I just finished Yvain series, and raring to continue forward… Thanks!
this is great ! I really like it !
Just started listening. What song is it that starts around 2:58 when you are introducing the story. Thanks
You’re still getting new listeners! I found you through Podbean, and I love how you tell these stories. Keep up the awesome work!
Hello-I just started listening, and I love your show. I am also an English major-about to get my MA in English Lit, specializing in Medieval Literature. This is super nerdy-but it would be so cool if you provided information about your sources for those of us who might want to dig deeper.
Cheers! I am looking forward to listening to more episodes, and I’ll tell some of my fellow English nerds about it. :-)
Yes, I’m planning on doing that. It’s kind of a big job, but I’ll be adding to the posts over time.
This is the book I was pulling from for this episode. There’s a Welsh version in the Mabinogion, but that is thought to be derived from Chretien de Troyes. There are also very rough poem versions which I’ve, frankly, lost track of after so long. The Amazon link above is definitely the best source for Yvain, though.
Hey! Just discovered you and now finished the Knights of the round table Yvainglory part 1 episode ! Thanks for this great concept! Nice to listen to with a touch of humor :-)
Only comment: some of the music was really making the listening unpleasant! It really sounded like super mario video game music. And it really ruins the ambiance you create… thanks so much and keep it going!
A happy listener from Switzerland
Thanks for saying hi! Glad you liked it :) I can honestly say it only gets better in story telling and production value from here on out.
As for the 8-bit music, that’s somewhat-prevalent throughout the podcast. I need to go back and re-mix the early episodes, because the background music can be a bit loud and distracting, but yeah…the 8-bit music, while definitely not in every episode or even most, is a mainstay throughout the podcast.
Hey Jason, I really loved the music in the first episode and thought it fit perfectly with your approach to storytelling. In fact, I was wondering who wrote the 8-bit-sounding piece or where it came from, I liked it so much. Keep up the good work!
The music is by “Rolemusic” (http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Rolemusic/). And I’m glad you liked it! I’ve used their music in several episodes.
I thought the 8-bit video game music was so much fun against the tale of the knights! Nice touch – gave me quiet a laugh. Just discovered your series and love it, thanks!
